My career has included exposure to all phases of an information systems organization, including the completion of contracts for the federal government. My strengths include the ability to take a project from conception to completion with no supervision. I consider myself a Journeyman iSeries and AS/400 RPG Programmer.

EMPLOYMENT

  • 1997 to present: AS/400 and iSeries Contract Programmer. Recent assignments include: Y2K conversion, UPS Host Access, Automated distribution manifesting, Spool File and system object APIs.
  • 1994 to 1997: Vice President - EDP, National PPO and TPA. Took AS/400 startup shop from ground zero to fully functioning MIS department of 14 people. Responsible for coordination and completion of MIS activities for company of 240 employees with major systems being Third Party Administration of self funded benefit plans and national Preferred Provider Organization. Developed and implemented corporate MIS Standards, Policies and Procedures. Developed and instituted a project tracking system handling 650 projects per year.
  • 1991 to 1994: Self employed consultant. Contract systems design and programming. Work with AS/400, System/38 and personal computer clients to meet their business application needs. Developed and installed interface to new 911 emergency system. Developed, installed and maintained multiple subsystems related to telephone toll rating. Perform maintenance programming and troubleshooting. Coordinate development and installation with users. Software: OS/400, RPG/IV, RPG/400, CL, RPG III, DBU, SEU, SDA, RLU, Query/400, SQL/4LESS, FormsPrint, Abstract/Probe, PDM, CMA-Ettworth.
  • 1989 to 1991: Programming Supervisor, National Home Health Care Company. Lead programmer and supervisor with a staff of five. Designed and implemented project tracking system resulting in a tripling of programming project completion rate. Introduced user/staff project coordination resulting in reducing user complaints by 50%. Assisted in troubleshooting and programming both new applications and maintenance. Hardware: paired IBM System/36's with communications and remote terminals, Austin 386SX PC's. Software: SSP, COBOL, RPG II and proprietary utilities.
  • 1975 to 1989: Gunter & Associates, Inc. Provided computer related services to government and private sector clients. Successfully completed multi-year contracts for both the U.S. Army and Air Force. Completed all contract administration functions including planning, automation, transition, negotiation and personnel administration. Although none of four previous contractors had, met all contract goals and received commendation from group commander. Designed and developed business software applications for over seventy-five clients. Consulted with clients to analyze and solve business problems. Performed all administrative tasks for staff as large as 19 employees. During this period, also developed the curriculum, then taught a RPG/II programming course. Taught one class per semester for three years. Highest job placement percentage in Data Processing Department.
  • 1969 to 1975: City of Austin Senior Programmer and project manager for the development of a major order entry and data communication computer system for Brackenridge Hospital. Developed a program generator system which cut system development time by one third.
